These birds are very common where I live, and I like to watch them as they fish along our rivers. This bird is a female, and is perched on a dead limb of a lodgepole pine. I chose to carve the limb and comes of this species because very often pines along our streams are killed by beatles, providing kingfishers with easy perches directly over the water. I turned the base from a South American hardwood that mirrors the color of the female kingfisher’s belt, unifying the composition.
